Larrimor’s: Luxury Fashion, Locally

Written by Madeline Milchman

Stepping into Larrimor’s feels like entering a space of perfection and prestige. Shelves and racks are lit by spotlights that show off couture clothes, folded and hung without a wrinkle. Tall, open windows let in natural sunlight, leaving nothing to hide, and they really have nothing to hide. This shop is exactly what it looks like; luxury and excellence are at the very core of Larrimor’s.

Beyond how the store appears from the outside, what sets Larrimor’s apart is the top-tier customer service that comes from this family-owned shop. Whether you’re looking for custom made clothes or just a simple shoe shine, sales associates will remember your name and what you like to drink while you shop.

Tom Michael, president of Larrimor's, describes shopping as a customized experience, “where the seller and the customer learn about each other and work together to help the customer achieve their goals.” He talked about a few of his customers, remembering little details about their color and style preferences.

Downtown has been home to Larrimor’s for 86 years, and that means a lot to Michael and the shop. Many of their customers live and work in the neighborhood, and Larrimor’s appreciates that through their Emergency Alteration Service offered to residents and visitors. “If your button falls off or your hem comes out or you split your pants or something like that, we’ll fix it for free, immediately,” Michael says.

Complimentary alterations on full priced items, home delivery, and closet consultations are some other services offered at Larrimor’s, but the most luxurious service is their Custom Menswear. It’s made to measure clothing, ranging from jeans to suits and even outerwear. When there’s so many choices to choose from, Larrimor’s is there to guide you through it. First, you choose the fabric, then model the garment, then take measurements, and finally, have it made.

Beyond what happens in the shop, Larrimor’s contributes to many charities. By donating gift cards to auctions and other fundraisers, they donate thousands of dollars a year. Michael says, “We want to live in a society that is healthy and where everybody can be their best person. To be able to help somebody is an opportunity to become a better person.”

Shopping at Larrimor’s is more than just retail therapy, it's an opportunity to support a store that cares about the neighborhood and its community. Visit the store at 249 Fifth Avenue or shop online.
