Lit Fridays at August Wilson!
Written by Viktoria Sako
Participate in conversations with prominent writers, artists, and poets, with the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC), on the last Friday of each month at 6 PM! Hosted and produced by Literary Curator, poet, and art writer Jessica Lanay, Lit Fridays is an opportunity for you to connect and converse with inspirational creatives of the African Diaspora. Catch the last three Lit Fridays of the year, with the special guest of that week being announced within the month of the event date.

This month’s featured guest is none other than Grammy and Tony Award-winning jazz legend Dee Dee Bridgewater. Bridgewater has become a leading voice in jazz, known for her unique takes on classic songs. She will be joining Lanay this Friday, August 29th, 6-7 PM!
Every Lit Friday is virtual, so you don’t have to worry about commuting– with one click, you can chat to creatives that are dedicated to not only their craft, but how their work overlaps with current cultural and political happenings. Click here to join this Friday’s conversation!
Past guests include prominent journalists and authors like Danyal Smith, author of SHINE BRIGHT: A Very Personal History of Black Women in Pop, and Dr. Edda Fields-Black, author of COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom during the Civil War, musicians and teachers like Colter Harper, author of Jazz in The Hill, and poets like Abiodun Oyewol, who’s the founding member of The Last Poets.
The August Wilson Center regularly updates their website, where they list all their events for the upcoming months.
