Downtown Pittsburgh’s Best Burgers

Written by Amanda Buchman

Downtown Pittsburgh offers a wide range of cuisines, each with its unique flavors. While we love to branch out, sometimes we’re simply craving a good, juicy burger. Don’t worry—there’s plenty of those downtown, too. Some patties are topped with a classic slice of American cheese, while others incorporate nontraditional ingredients for a more complex flavor profile.

Redbeard’s, Downtown Pittsburgh’s favorite sports bar and grill, offers several burgers, each with an all-natural beef patty and toasted onion poppy bun. Their specialty is Redbeard’s Mountain Climber, which features cheddar jack cheese, onion straws, and a signature sauce. Or, try the Ball Park, the intersection between a burger and a BLT. You can’t go wrong!

The Commoner Burger is served with wagyu beef, caramelized onions, sweet pickles, American cheese, and The Commoner’s secret sauce. The gastropub is located inside Hotel Monaco, but many customers come just for the delicious eats.

Meat & Potatoes offers mouth-watering options, which are both served with a side of house fries. The Pub Burger includes pastrami pork belly, cheddar, fried egg, and a secret sauce, while the Rossini has red onion jam, madeira sauce, foie gras, and truffled dijon.

Mitchell’s Pub has been a staple in Downtown Pittsburgh for decades. The Mitchburger Burger was created in the early 80s with help of Chef Rich Brady, and features a chargrilled lean ground beef patty loaded with crisp bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a special Mitch Sauce on a grilled kaiser bun. This decadent sandwich comes with pickle chips on the side.

The Yard may be known for its grilled cheese, but don’t sleep on the Yard Burger. The signature burger blend is topped with thick cut bacon, cheddar, tomato, lettuce, onion, and homemade garlic aioli. For two thinner patties stacked on top of each other, get the The Pattystack and or the Smash Club Burger. All are served on a fresh brioche bun with house seasoned potato chips, which vegetarians can also enjoy with the Bean Between burger.

Revel has options to satisfy all your cravings. There’s no shortage of bacon here, from the Bacon Jam Burger to the BBQ Bacon Burger. For something different, try the Mushroom Swiss Burger or a Smashburger. On the side, you can choose between french fries, Carolina slaw, homemade chips, or the Caesar or house salad.
