Best Dish: The Breakfast Panini at Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast
Written by Amanda Buchman
Walking into Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast feels like being welcomed into a big family’s home. I was greeted by yellow walls and warm lighting as a staff member smiled at me and told me to sit wherever I felt comfortable.
As a formerly picky eater who had never tried Turkish cuisine, I hesitated coming here. But as soon as I received the menu, I relaxed upon realizing how expansive the options were. From sweet crepes to savory menemen (scrambled eggs with tomatoes and green peppers), there’s something for everyone.

Though I felt no pressure to rush my choice, I knew what I wanted relatively quickly: the breakfast panini. I’ve always been a lover of crusty bread and melted cheese, so I was not disappointed. Fans of ciabatta and mozzarella will love this sandwich.
However, it was the sucuk that stole the show. This Turkish sausage made from ground beef contains more than ten different spices, creating a flavor that can only be understood by those that have tried it. I was blown away by the first bite.
If you’re sensitive to spicy foods, don’t worry—so am I. Despite the dozens of different ingredients that go into this dish, the heat it brings is very mild.
For anyone looking to enjoy a long, relaxing breakfast, Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast is the perfect place. Visit anytime between 7 AM-3 PM at 129 Sixth Street, any day except for Wednesdays. Stay, have a Turkish coffee, take your time. You are welcome here.
