The Yard provides the ultimate comfort bar food in Market Square. With oozing melted cheese and a side of house-seasoned potato chips, it’s no wonder their gourmet grilled cheeses are so highly rated. Upgrade your sandwich with a battered chicken breast, thick cut bacon, or even a layer of creamy macaroni and cheese.
Corner Mercantile on Wood Street handcrafts their soups and sandwiches daily, with plenty of options to satisfy sophisticated taste buds. Their enticing menu includes spicy capicola on sourdough as well as a brie and cheddar grilled cheese on swiss multigrain bread.
Talia has a lunch menu that compares to no other, with a flavorful line up of sandwiches you must try. The Meatball Smash is sure to take your tastebuds on a trip they’ve never been before with a beautiful combination of provolone, pomodoro, and pesto.

Forbes Tavern takes your favorite comfort food and classes it up. Get your fix of spicy fried chicken topped with Nashville Hot sauce and horseradish aioli, or try a crab cake sandwich with remoulade, lettuce and tomato. Both are served on a toasted brioche bun with fries, potato salad, sautéed Brussels sprouts, or tomato and cucumber salad.
Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar is, of course, a Pittsburgh staple. Their Market Square location serves up fan favorites like the Pitts-Burger and Cheese and the PB Reuben, complete with french fries and coleslaw. For any visitors in the ‘burgh, it’s a must-try.
Whether you’re in the mood for beef, chicken, cold cuts, or veggies, when in Downtown Pittsburgh, you’re never more than a short walk away from your next sandwich.
