DNA’s Acoustic Tuesdays Foster Community Downtown

Written by Amanda Buchman

Last Tuesday, October 14, The Downtown Neighbors Alliance (DNA) held its second Acoustic Tuesdays event featuring local artists Oliver Hufford and Megan Paullet. Downtown residents packed the house, with close to sixty people in attendance!

Both artists amazed the crowd with original songs and covers. Hufford, a Chatham University student, won over audience members with an impressive indie rock set. His talent and heartfelt lyricism made his performance hard to forget.

The audience remained captivated as the second performer, Paullet, wowed them with her powerful vocals and keyboard skills. The multi-genre singer-songwriter is regarded as a standout performer by several Pittsburgh publications. Those in attendance on Tuesday definitely agree, as everyone was in awe of her performance.

Abigail Runko, a downtown resident, said, “the mix of the talent level of the performers, the crowd, and the intimacy of the venue created the perfect scenario. I can see this being a weekly stop for me.” She wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

“I can’t wait to see more of these,” said Nick Shook, another downtown resident in attendance on Tuesday. “This is part of what makes downtown great. It felt like a hole in the donut, but it seems like DNA has filled that hole.”

John Valentine, DNA’s Executive Director, thanked each person who came to the event as they were leaving. “Almost all of them told me, ‘I’m coming back Tuesday; this was great,’” he said.

Valentine could not be more enthused by the number of attendees and their excitement around the event. At the core of DNA’s mission is a desire to foster community downtown, and Acoustic Tuesdays are doing just that.

“This is already something special for downtown and it’s only the second week,” said another downtown resident, Ralph Falbo. “I can’t wait to see what will be performed in the coming weeks. This is something that the residents not only need but want.”

This upcoming Tuesday, October 21, get ready for a fun night of performances by your very own friends and neighbors! Our third Acoustic Tuesday will feature comedians as well as musical performers. If you’d like to perform, please let us know!

As always, the event is free to attend—register here to claim your spot as we only have room for 66 attendees. Whether you’re planning to get up on stage or enjoy the night from the audience, we’re so excited to have you for our open mic night at Liberty Magic.
