Enjoy a Tasty Treat at One of Downtown’s Local Bakeries

Written by Cassie St. John

Though the holidays may be over, it is still the perfect time to enjoy a warm baked treat. Whether it’s a freshly-baked cookie or a toasted pastry, Downtown Pittsburgh offers a variety of great bakeries to help you find the perfect sweet treat.

La Gourmandine Bakery

308 Forbes Avenue

This French bakery offers a wide variety of French pastries, cakes, and breads. They are known for being “A Little Taste of France in Pittsburgh”. Their baked goods offer a small taste of authentic French cuisine, and their menu showcases treats that cannot be found anywhere else Downtown. Some highlights from the menu include Tarte aux framboises, Éclair au Chocolat, and Macarons aux Fruits.

Prantl’s Bakery

555 Grant Street Suite 337

This Pittsburgh staple has been making baked goods for decades and is considered one of the top bakeries in the country. The bake shop is known for its Burnt Almond Torte, which Huffington Post called the “best cake in America”. They also have a vast selection of over 100 other treats, including danishes, strudels, cheesecakes, cannolis, pies, scones, thumbprint cookies, and gobs, among many more.

While listed as a coffee shop, Gasoline Street Coffee offers a tasty selection of bakery goods, including blondies, muffins, hand pies, and oatmeal cream pies. The shop also serves homemade breakfast sandwiches available on weekdays, on your choice of bagel.

Rock n Joe Coffee

Another coffee shop with a great bakery selection is Rock n Joe Coffee. Their house-made baked goods are the perfect tasty treat and pair well with their drink menu. The bakery menu consists of cranberry orange muffins, blueberry scones, apple fritters, lemon pound cake, and cinnamon twists.
