Fresh Salad Spots to Check Out

With dozens of restaurants, Downtown has all the best spots for every dish possible. This week, we’re highlighting salads! While often thought of as a side or light meal, the salads at these restaurants become the star of the show.

Alihan’s is a delicious Turkish restaurant found in the heart of the Cultural District. Their meals are prepared in the same fashion as their family used to cook at their restaurant in Istanbul. Their selection of salads includes Alihan’s Caprese, White Bean, and Summer salads.

Alta Via - 2 PPG Place

Served for both lunch and dinner, Alta Via has all the classic salads like Caesar and Chopped, but they also have more unique ones like a roasted beet salad with ricotta, orange vinaigrette, and Marcona almonds. You can add proteins like grilled chicken, salmon, or a crab cake (lunch only).

Corner Mercantile - 472 Wood St

Located in PNC Plaza, Corner Mercantile’s meals are all made from scratch. Partnered with local, family-owned farms and producers, they incorporate the finest seasonal ingredients into their recipes. They have a wide variety of salads including Mediterranean, Salmon, Cranberry, Fall House, Kale and Quinoa, and Cranberry Chicken Pecan.

Istanbul Grille - 600 Grant St

Another staple Turkish restaurant Downtown, Istanbul Grille is small but mighty. It includes unique salads like a chicken, beef gyro, or meatball salads. They also have classic cold salads without meat — and their fresh Shepherd Salad.

The Yard - 100 Fifth Ave

We couldn’t leave this list without mentioning the iconic Pittsburgh salad. The Yard serves their version of a Pittsburgh salad with sirloin steak, waffle fries, and an over easy egg on top. Delicious!
