Calling all film fans! Harris Theater is showing classic, foreign, and contemporary films all summer long. In its history, the Harris Theater was called Art Cinema and was the first moving picture house in Pittsburgh. In 1995, as part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s mission to revamp the cultural district, it was reopened for movies and live performances. The following list is this summer’s showings.
International Art House Classics: Dogtooth
Running now until July 24th
Two parents decide to keep their children in a gated compound with strict rules, shielded from the outside world. When the father brings in a young woman to satisfy his son’s sexual urges, the family's fake reality crumbles.
Roger Waters This is Not a Drill: Live From Prague- The Movie
July 23rd
Roger Waters, the founder and leader of PInk Floyd, brings his live show to screen, with iconic Pink Floyd songs and songs from his days as a solo musician.
International Art House Classics: Stray Dog
July 24-26
Detective Marukami’s gun is stolen on a crowded bus. Desperate to find his gun’s captor, he searches the streets of Tokyo for the “stray dog.” The film examines Marakumi’s dark side as cop and criminal lives intertwine.
George Romero’s Day of the Dead
July 25-27
A group of zombie apocalypse survivors attempt to tame the slayers while hiding out in an underground bunker, but it doesn’t go as planned.
Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse
August 9-16
This documentary is about a cast and crew that ventured into the Philippine jungles to work on a film. The shoot quickly turned disastrous, with few surviving unscathed.
International Art House Classics: Throne of Blood

This Macbeth adaptation, directed by Akira Jurosawa, is set in feudal Japan.
International Art House Classics: High and Low

A shoe company executive’s son is kidnapped in this adaptation of an Ed McBain 87th Precinct Novel. Directed by Kurosawa, the film explores morality and justice in a society defined by economic disparity.
Apocalypse Now: The Original Roadshow Version

Taking place during the height of the Vietnam War, this film follows Captain Willard as he journeys from South Vietnam to Cambodia on an order to assassinate the rogue Colonel Kurtz.
