Indian Cuisine to Move Downtown

Written by Arlo Grey MacFarland

The Indian Street Food ghost kitchen, Mild 2 Spicy, is relocating downtown!  Opening their brick-and-mortar storefront at 951 Liberty Ave., we are excited to welcome them to the downtown food lineup.  Mild 2 Spicy will move in where Bae Bae’s Café previously sat for the last few years, and new owner Shalin Patel is ready to make some changes.

Patel opened Mild 2 Spicy in Spring 2025 out of a ghost kitchen located on Melwood Ave. in Oakland. There, he aimed to become an authentic Indian restaurant under the quick model of restaurants like Chipotle or McDonald’s.  Offering take out and delivery only, they became increasingly popular in the area.  Now, Patel is taking the steps to achieve the dream he originally envisioned.

“Downtown gives us a great opportunity, I feel like it's a prime location.  So as a ghost kitchen, like once once you kind of got settled in there, we started to realize like it's a limited potential just in the location, we're there in the operation model that it worked off of, I would usually get like every day, I'd get like 3 or 4 customers calling in, asking for dining, and like, unfortunately, we don't have dining, all we do is take our delivery,” said Patel.

By opening a proper storefront, Mild 2 Spicy can expand its menu and add the full dining experience Patel had wanted from the beginning.  However, the restaurant also stands out for its unique menu of Indian Street food, whereas there aren’t many of those types of spots in Pittsburgh.

“We're not a standard cookie cutter Indian restaurant that does fine dining or whatever the standard model restaurant model is, where you go in there, sit down, eat.  Our stuff is more Indian street food, so it's more a grab and go, kind of snack food, you know, um, just kind of the, the world that we live in today, people are always on the move, on the go,” said Patel.

Patel anticipates this move to bring about new and expanded business.  Their relocation and bigger space allows for new menu items to be added, including a new twist on the classic butter chicken.

“So we're gonna offer things that you don't necessarily find in other restaurants, other Indian restaurants.  The whole, whole experience is meant to be unique Indian food in unique cuisine. So, if you've been going to an Indian restaurant eating the same stuff, if you come to our place, you're going to get a chance to experience new flavors, uh, with different kinds of twists and fusions,” said Patel

As of now, Patel is planning to open the new location sometime in December 2025.  For more information on the menu and when the grand opening will be, visit mild2spicypittsburgh.com
