A new Prantl’s Bakery has recently opened in Downtown Pittsburgh. The new bakery spot opened in September 2025 and is located inside the Omni William Penn Hotel at 555 Grant Street Suite 337.
First opened in Shadyside by Henry and Jane Prantl, the bakery has since become one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic locations. Their signature item, the Burnt Almond Cake, came to be just a few years after opening. In 1970, Henry replicated the recipe for the now famous cake after he saw it at a national bakers conference. He altered the recipe to include Prantl's famous buttercream and toasted almonds and the cake has become a staple item ever since. The Burnt Almond Cake has even been named “the best cake in America” by the Huffington Post.

The new Downtown location offers a vast array of baked goods and guests are guaranteed to find something they will love. Beyond their iconic Burnt Almond Cake, the bakery offers sweet treats including strudels, cake bars, cannolis, cheesecakes, danishes, donuts, gobs, thumbprint cookies, paczki, hamantaschen, and more. In addition, the downtown Prantl’s offers an assortment of savory items including breads, empanadas, quiche cups, savory rolls and more.
