On April 10th, 1845, The Great Fire of Pittsburgh swept through Downtown Pittsburgh, destroying 982 buildings in its wake. The Bank of Pittsburgh was one of the few buildings that still stood, though its insides were destroyed. Many Pittsburghers were left homeless, but the city recovered quickly thanks to the grace and hospitality of its people.
