Tekko Anime Convention

Written by Elisabeth Kay

A piece of Japanese culture is coming straight to the heart of Pittsburgh this weekend: Tekko, an annual Anime Convention, is making its comeback from July 17-20 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and it’s something you do not want to miss.

This convention has been growing in Pittsburgh since 2003, and has big plans to continue for many years to come. With many different events, competitions, and shows, it’s sure to be a good time and leave any lover of Anime and Japanese culture feeling fulfilled.

Gaming is a big part of this convention, and there’s truly something for everyone. Get competitive and enjoy some arcade games provided by vendors and volunteers. If card games are more your style, Tekko has you covered as you can play and trade cards with others and even compete in a headlined tournament.

Board games are not lost on Tekko, either; tournaments, rentals, and open demos are offered in the Game Hall of the convention. If you’re feeling in touch with a character you’ve created, role-play gaming and LARP (live action role playing) games are only expanding as Tekko goes on. Feel free to submit an idea to the convention if you have a game in mind, or join in on the fun by registering for the convention!

Tekko offers a safe space to lose yourself at the door as they encourage you to cosplay! They offer photography and meetups to show off your hard work and phenomenal looks while collaborating with other people!

Additionally, they’ve invited some popular names in the cosplay community, such as Uptown Cosplay, Maguma, Starfall Blade, and many more, for the chance to host meet-ups! You can be rewarded for your craftsmanship in the Cosplay Craftsmanship Contest! Rules and registration can be found on their website, as well as all other cosplay-related things for the weekend.

There’s all this and so much more at Tekko, one of downtown’s largest and most coveted conventions. You’ll find escape rooms, a Formal Ball, music and dancing, and so much more downtown this weekend, paired with a community who can’t wait to see you join!
