A Tai Chi Session for the Downtown Community
Written by Cassie St. John
We’re inviting all Downtown residents and community members to a morning of exercise for the body, mind, and spirit. This March, Downtown Neighbors Alliance is hosting a Tai Chi event to promote mental and physical well-being for participants.
The session will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at UFC Gym, located at 236 Fifth Avenue.
This March session will be one of many more in the future, giving attendees a chance to get a feel for the event. In the future, the event will be held outdoors when the weather is consistently warmer, likely after April.
Tai Chi is a form of Chinese martial arts that focuses on meditation through movement. It is a unique form of exercise that relaxes your body and mind, and has been proven to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and balance. Tai Chi is an amazing experience for all ages and is very beginner-friendly, meaning no experience is necessary. The exercises are slower and less intense while still providing a balanced workout for participants.
The session will be led by instructors from Win-Win Kung Fu Culture Center, an organization dedicated to promoting authentic Chinese martial arts. Every instructor at Win-Win Kung Fu was recruited from the top Chinese martial arts schools and teams in China. In recent years, the organization has taught several high-achieving athletes, including a Tai Chi world champion.
This event is part of DNA’s Living Well Initiative, a wellness movement that promotes healthy and happy lifestyles for the Downtown community. An important aspect of the initiative is its goal to provide affordable fitness programs and encourage learning and social connection through its events.
Our Tai Chi Event is a great chance for the Downtown Community to connect to their mind, body, and other residents!
