Dinner with a View: A Rooftop Evening at Sushi I

Last week, the Downtown Neighbors Alliance gathered for a delightful evening out, making use of our Candlelight Crescendo 20% member discount at one of downtown’s most stylish spots—Sushi I. Known for its fresh sushi and sleek design, Sushi I also offers a rooftop experience that stands out in the city’s dining scene.

The rooftop features both regular outdoor dining tables and a cozy sofa lounge area, creating a versatile space that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for relaxed drinks after work. With soft lighting, comfortable seating, and views of the downtown skyline, the atmosphere feels elevated yet welcoming.

We sampled several of the restaurant’s signature rolls, including the playfully named Green Turtle Roll. Despite its name, there’s no turtle involved—just a vibrant combination of salmon, yellowtail, white tuna, and avocado, all wrapped in green soybean paper. The roll is topped with honey wasabi mayo and wasabi tobiko, offering a refreshing balance of flavor and texture.

Also on the table was the bold and flavorful Tiger Roll, made with shrimp tempura and avocado on the inside, and layered with spicy crab, garlic sauce, and a finishing touch of red tobiko. This roll delivers just the right combination of crunch, spice, and richness.

Between the exceptional food, the rooftop ambiance, and the chance to unwind with friends and colleagues, the evening was a great reminder of what makes downtown Pittsburgh such a dynamic place to live and work.
