New Hotel Attached to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center

Written by Willow Shedlock

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center is expected to receive an adjacent hotel very soon! Pennsylvania State Senator Wayne D. Fontana, who has been spearheading this project along with the Sports and Exhibition Authority, announced that negotiations are still being made as they close in on a deal.

There is a public subsidy package, but the value of the package has not been released, though estimated costs suggest a range of $30 million and $100 million. The only formal information known about the public subsidy is that it was a combined offering from the state, Allegheny County, and the City of Pittsburgh.

Additionally, Fontana is in contact with a hotel group that, although it is currently under a nondisclosure agreement, is alleged to be an upscale group that has often worked alongside convention centers.

The planned hotel will have approximately 500 rooms and have direct access to the convention center. Moving forward, the plan's next phase includes confirming agreement details.

With this addition to Downtown, there would be an increase in the number of larger conventions, and offer new job opportunities to Downtown residents. The hotel is planned to be built on two parking lots located on Penn Ave and 10th St.

So keep an eye out for further news regarding this hotel!
