Point Park University recently announced that its musical theater program will start a cabaret-style showcase series of their students.  Called the Songwriters Cabaret Series, these concerts will take place at the Greet Cabaret Theater, and offer a chance for students to perform at a professional venue in front of a paying audience.  

Pittsburgh is home to lots of universities, which offer lots of different programs. But in the heart of downtown lives one of America’s greatest dance programs: Point Park University’s School of Dance. 

Pittsburgh film festival Just Films is celebrating its 10^th anniversary this 2025 season!  This month, the festival presents indie film King Coal October 20, 2025. A collaborative effort between Chatham University, Point Park University, the YWCA and more, Just Films highlights deeper societal issues in the form of local film. Often making the viewer ask introspective questions about life and the world, this festival brings something different to Pittsburgh’s arts.

Point Park University welcomed its biggest class since before the pandemic, and because of this, some of their freshmen have been calling the Wyndham Grand hotel their home. To give their students another place to live, Point Park University has been looking to renovate both 305 Wood Street and 500 Smithfield Street.

Several schools in Pittsburgh offer these programs, but Point Park University is the only one rooted downtown, providing a direct connection to the city’s most active business sphere.

Point Park University is establishing schools of dance and theatre. Up to now both were departments within its Conservatory of Performing Arts. The rationale is growth as the university aims to grow the enrollment and reach of its nationally known conservatory.

Downtown Neighbors Alliance hosted the Developer’s Forum where city leaders shared upcoming improvements to Downtown Pittsburgh. The panel focused on Point Park University’s recent announcement of a new community events center and the future of the city.

The Pittsburgh Playhouse is preparing to welcome the community with its first annual Fall Festival, a lively celebration marking the start of the Autumn season. This exciting event is open to all ages, promising a wide variety of activities, carnival games, and local vendors.

Families can enjoy kid-friendly activities like face painting, while doing arts and crafts. The festival will also be showing a musical parody show: Boo’s Halloween House Party, which is the highlight of the event.
