Big Upgrade Complete at Point State Park Ahead of the NFL Draft ๐๐
The 2026 NFL Draft may still be months away, but downtown Pittsburgh just scored an early win.
This week, the Shapiro Administration announced that Phase 1 of major improvements at Point State Park is officially complete and finished ahead of schedule. Yes, ahead. We love to see it.
The $3.4 million project, led by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), focused on essential upgrades that make one of downtownโs most iconic spaces safer, brighter, and more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
So whatโs new?
Repairs to the parkโs famous fountain, including fixing leaks and upgrading lighting
Improved walkways, hardscapes, and utilities
Lighting upgrades and enhancements to the City Side Lawn, flag bastion, and parking lot
Refreshed landscaping throughout the park
Originally scheduled to wrap up in spring 2026, the work was completed well ahead of schedule, putting Point State Park in great shape for major upcoming events like the NFL Draft and the nationโs 250th birthday celebrations.
State leaders emphasized that these improvements are part of a larger, long-term vision. Announced in October 2024, Governor Josh Shapiroโs 10-year plan aims to revitalize downtown Pittsburgh and strengthen it as a destination for residents, businesses, and visitors.
And this is just the beginning.
Phase 2, a $25 million investment, will focus on longer-term upgrades, including additional fountain improvements and new recreational features on the City Side Lawn.
With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected for the NFL Draft and millions more watching worldwide, these upgrades help ensure downtown Pittsburgh is ready to shine, not just for one big moment, but for years to come.
At Downtown Neighbors Alliance, weโre excited to see continued investment in public spaces that support downtown vibrancy, community life, and economic growth. Point State Park is ready. And honestly? So is downtown. ๐
