Smithsonian Food Lecture

Written by Allison Bridgwater

Location: 1212 Smallman Street

As the Mardi Gras holiday sneaks up, you’ll want a lesson on food culture from local Pittsburgher Dr. Ashley Rose Young. She will delve into her research and discuss how food shapes our community on February 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Whether you want to learn more about New Orleans meals or how it all connects to cities like Pittsburgh, Dr. Young is the one to listen to about The Culture of Food. You can join the fun in person at the Heinz History Center or online.

General admission is only $10 and $5 for members. Talk about worth it. You have the chance to experience one of the many events from the Smithsonian Institution’s Lecture Series in Pittsburgh.

Revel in the lively history of New Orleans while learning about the difficulties its people faced. After all, New Orleans is known for more than the diverse and amazing food.

You can trust that Dr. Young knows what she’s doing. She’s a public historian, curator, Smithsonian research associate, and author of the book Nourishing Networks: The Public Culture of Food in New Orleans

Also, she worked with her family at McGinnis Sisters Food Stores until its closure after 72 years. Therefore, you know you’re heading for a delectable taste of food culture.

As this Smithsonian Lecture Series is part of Heinz History Center’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday this year, it's all the more necessary to learn about our country’s past.

The important knowledge of history, culture, traditions, community, and food makes attending this event truly special. So don’t miss out, and purchase your ticket for The Culture of Food: https://www.heinzhistorycenter.org/event/smithsonian-lecture-series-the-culture-of-food/.
